A call for shelves
Five questions, one photograph of your shelves, and the books that stayed.
The editors · 11 October 2026
We want to see your shelves. Not the best-looking ones in the house, and not the ones you tidied this morning. The real ones: the double-stacked row, the paperback with the cracked spine, the book you meant to return in 2014.
Shelf of Mind is a series about the people behind private libraries. Each entry is one person, one photograph of their shelves, and five answers. No ranking, no reading targets, no list of the hundred books you must read before you die.
The five questions
- The book you will never give away.
- The one you have not read and never will.
- The book someone gave you that changed something.
- The book you lent and never got back.
- Where you read, and where the book goes afterwards.
How to take part
Send one or two photographs of your shelves and your five answers to customer@zenithalig.com, with the subject line “Shelf of Mind”. A few sentences per answer is enough. Short is good. Honest is better.
We read every entry. Before we publish anything, we write back, show you the edited text and ask for your permission. You can ask us to use only your first name, or no name at all. If you change your mind later, we take the entry down.
Anyone can take part. A thousand books or forty. A library in a house, or one shelf above a desk. It is not the size of the collection that tells us something. It is what you decided to keep.
